Yemen

The other birthplace of coffee cultivation. Wild, fermented, intensely fruity.

Yemen is where coffee cultivation began outside Ethiopia, and Yemeni coffee — particularly from the Haraz mountains — has been traded and prized for over 500 years. The plants grow wild and dry on rooftops, producing small, irregular beans with intense flavor.

The signature Yemeni profile is wildly fermented and fruity: dried berries, tropical fruit, cardamom, and a wine-like depth. These are not subtle coffees.

Yemeni production is small and politically fraught, which is why genuine Yemeni coffee is rare and expensive. When you see it, treat it as a special occasion.
