Colombia

Versatile, balanced coffees from many micro-regions. Often the gateway into specialty.

Colombia is the third-largest coffee producer in the world, and unlike Brazil or Vietnam, almost all Colombian coffee is grown on small family farms — often less than 5 hectares. This means a huge diversity of micro-climates and flavor profiles.

The signature Colombian profile is balanced and sweet: caramel, milk chocolate, red apple, and mild citrus acidity. It's the country most beginners start with because the flavors are approachable.

Notable regions include Huila (fruity, sweet), Antioquia (classic balanced cup), and Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta (high-altitude, complex). Colombian coffee is rarely bad — but the truly great lots come from specific farms, not bulk shipments.
